Exchange of best practices on home care for medico-social centres on both sides of the Dniester Rive

"Enhancing professionalism in home care for the staff of the medical-social center "Забота" in Grigoriopol" was the topic of discussions during the exchange of experience, held on 8-9 April 2022 in the city of Grigoriopol on the left bank of the Dniester.

The two-day event was attended by 24 professionals from medical-social centres and head nurses from both sides of the Dniester River.

On the first day, the agenda of the exchange of best practices included several theoretical topics related to guiding potential beneficiaries to the medico-social centres, explaining the eligibility criteria applicable to beneficiaries, as well as the need to comply with minimum quality standards in providing medico-social services.

The second day was mainly focused on practical exercises, oriented on care mechanisms for patients with chronic (serious) diseases. At the same time, special attention was paid to problems arising in the process of home care and the methodology applied to solve them.

In this regard, the moderator of the seminar Natalia Cuznetsova (psychologist) noted at the beginning of the discussions that "empathetic attitude and communication skills increase the confidence of beneficiaries in health services and their efficiency", noting that the feeling of security and comfort felt by beneficiaries, in interaction with the team of caregivers, helps them to take important steps in changing their lifestyle, faster and more effective resolution of difficult situations, as well as return to the active social-economic circuit.

"The satisfaction of the 281 beneficiaries - including 200 home care beneficiaries - whom we have served in the last 8 months, is directly influenced by several factors, mainly by the communication and interpersonal skills of the professionals: giving more time during visits, effective listening, description of the diagnosis and treatment process, friendly behaviour of the professionals, acceptance and understanding of patients' emotions, and last but not least creating an atmosphere of calm and trust", added Natalia Cuznețova.

"The visit allowed not only the exchange of experience in the sphere of home care provision, but also the observation of a different way of thinking, which opened up new visions and provided models of good practice that we intend and hope to apply in our organization", concluded in the end the administrator of the Medical and Social Centre "Забота" in Grigoriopol, Olga Yufereva.

The trainings and the above-mentioned activities are delivered within the project “Improvement of medico-social care services for people with long-term care needs on both sides of Dniester river” funded by the European Union and co-financed by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany, under the general EU Confidence Building Measures Programme V (CBM V) - Health sector modernization. The implementation of the Project is ensured by a consortium of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the Czech Development Agency (CzDA).
