Between April and August 2021, Caritas Czech Republic in Moldova in cooperation with AO “Homecare” and AO “Health and Sport”, will train 160 social assistants and social workers from the left bank of Nistru river who will acquire new skills on delivering long-term care for the elderly and people with special needs.
A series of 3-day trainings for social assistants and social workers from the left bank of Nistru river on long-term care for the elderly and people with special needs kicked off in Tiraspol on April 13. The trainings will focus on the best practices in the provision of long-term care (LTC), ethics for social professionals, challenges in the provision of LTC and how to address them, palliative care, and latest developments in the provision of homecare services. The trainings will be delivered by Caritas Czech Republic in Moldova, in cooperation with AO “Homecare” and AO “Health and Sport” – NGOs from the right and the left banks of Nistru river.
Through these capacity-building activities, social assistants and social workers from the left bank of Nistru river will broaden their knowledge and acquire new skills on long-term care, which will be used at ensuring a better provision of medico-social services to elderly and people with special needs in the region.
Also, in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, to contribute to delivering of safe social services in the region, each participant will receive from the Project a COVID-19 kit, containing necessary supplies (disinfectant, masks, gloves, shoe covers, wet and alcohol wipes, etc.).
Besides the social professionals’ capacity development, the Project will also contribute to policy development on long-term care in the region and piloting of a medico-social day care center with outreach to the patients with long term care needs.
The trainings and the above-mentioned activities are delivered within the project “Improvement of medico-social care services for people with long-term care needs on both sides of Dniester river” funded by the European Union and co-financed by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany, under the general EU Confidence Building Measures Programme V (CBM V) - Health sector modernization. The implementation of the Project is ensured by a consortium of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the Czech Development Agency (CzDA).
