The Caritas Czech Republic Cash programme operated in the Gagauzia region and provided cash assistance for refugees from this region will complete the cash distribution by the end of January 2023. All the beneficiaries enrolled in the Caritas CZ Cash programme will receive the last payment by the end of January. 

Beneficiaries of Cash assistance provided by the Caritas Czech Republic in the Gagauzia region (Comrat, Ceadir-Lunga, and Vulcanesti) are invited to apply for UNHCR cash assistance. 

The UNHCR Cash programme operates at the national level, and people can approach the nearest Enrolment Centre. The Enrolment centres are open from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm from Monday to Friday.

How to access UNHCR cash assistance for refugees? 

  1. Approach the nearest Enrolment Centre and request to be enrolled. Afterward, UNHCR or one of its partners will contact you by phone or SMS to provide the appointment details. 
  2. On the date and time of your appointment, please approach the Enrolment Centre again. All the family members should attend, bring your documents with you. If you are eligible, you will receive a MAIB bank card and detailed information on the program. 
  3. Each family member will receive a monthly payment of 2,200 Moldovan lei on the same card.

Cash support assistance for vulnerable refugees from Ukraine

Refugees from Ukraine accomodated in UTA Gagauzia (Comrat, Ceadâr-Lunga, Vulcănești) can receive cash support assistance through Caritas Czech Republic.  

The cash support assistance is available to vulnerable refugees from Ukraine on the basis of criteria and conditions approved by the Government of the Republic of Moldova within the framework of the emergency humanitarian response for refugees in the country.

Who is eligible to receive the cash support assistance? 

  • Refugee families with one or more dependants;
  • Refugee families with a single parent;
  • Refugee families with minor children (under 18);
  • Refugee families with a child without parents or legal guardians;
  • Refugee families with one or more elderly persons (over 60);
  • Refugee families with one or more persons with special needs, including:
  • Persons with disabilities;
  • Pregnant women;
  • People with a serious chronic illness;
  • Other categories. 

What is the amount of the cash support assistance?

The amount of cash support is 2,200 lei and it will be paid to eligible persons through the Post Office of Moldova in the form of a single payment.  

Families with more than one member will receive 2,200 lei per family member.

For how long is cash support assistance granted? 

Refugees who stay in the Republic of Moldova for a period longer than one month will be entitled to receive repeatedly the cash assistance for up to 6 (six) months, but the period of cash assistance may not exceed 6 consecutive months. 

What is the registration procedure for receiving cash support assistance?

In order to receive the cash support assistance, eligible persons must register in advance to Caritas Czech Republic operators from Comrat, Ceadâr-Lunga, Vulcănești.

As part of the registration process, eligible persons will share their identity data and a Moldovan mobile phone number with operators.  

How will the cash support assistance be received?

People who pre-registered for cash support will receive an SMS on the phone number shared during registration with the Caritas Czech Republic operators.

Within 10 calendar days, on the basis of the SMS and on their identity documents, eligible persons will go to the post office to receive the cash support.  The presentation of identity documents at post office is compulsory.
