Description of project: The project builds on earlier activities of Caritas CR and “Success” in the Cahul district (the project “Youth and local public administration: a sustainable partnership”) and continues to motivate young people to participate directly and more actively in the decision-making processes. At the same time, the project aims to educate Moldovan youth on the principles of European democratic participation and cooperation, and intends to facilitate the processes of personal growth and capacity-building.

The mobilisation of young people for the participation in local elections
A workshop will be conducted together with a subsequent campaign called “Social media for social change”, directed at the problems facing youth. It will be an opportunity to introduce new communication channels to young people and other members of the community as an efficient means to mobilise young people. There will be another workshop on democracy and human rights, followed by two public debates involving the workshop participants and municipal authority candidates (May 2011). Later, another workshop with the elected municipality candidates will take place (June 2012). During the elections of local authorities (May 2011), a flash mob entitled “Your voice counts” will be organised.
Participation of the youth in the decision-making processes on a local level
A summer school called “Be active – grab the chance!” for the representatives of youth, NGOs and local governments will focus on developing youth capacities, cooperation between youth and local governments, exchange and transferof experience in the area of youth problems and a successful implementation of politics concerning young people. Representatives of young people participating in the summer school will be invited to create teams as a part of the “Peer to Peer” initiative and to suggest and carry out small-scale information activities regarding the topic of youth in schools and in village communities from which they hail.

Active participation of young people within their communities will be supported by a grant programme, to which representatives of youth will be able to apply for funding of small projects. The project proposals should include activities connected to civic engagement, focused on the encouragement of disadvantaged and marginalised youth groups, or such proposals which aim to solve some of the community's problems.

Young people are familiar with the democratic culture and values of the European Union
Summer school of the European Union (2012): thanks to spreading awareness about human rights and democracy all over the world, the participants will be introduced to the European Union, its history, role, activities of the European institutions, decision-making processes within the EU and its foreign policy. In the autumn of 2012, a “Week of European values” will take place, which will give local schools the opportunity to take part in a contest for the most creative approach to European values. Winners will be able to attend an exchange visit in the Czech Republic, and in three of the most active institutions, a European corner will be established. During the event, a large number of people are going to be informed about different EU issues, particularly in a creative way, by the young people themselves.

In October 2012, an exchange visit will take place called “The role of young people and youth organisations in promoting the engagement of young people in society”. The most active youth representatives from the small-grant programme projects will join the visit, together with the winners of the contest “Week of European values”. The event will be supported by another Czech non-profit organisation dealing with youth. Young people from Moldova will get acquainted with the Czech experience. The project covers active involvement, intercultural exchange, teaching tolerance, and the desire for innovation.
