Caritas Czech Republic facilitates psychological supervision for professionals in Moldova

Professionals in fields like social workers, mental health workers or caregivers, can benefit from essential support in their professional development through a supervisor. Supervisors provide guidance and constructive feedback to the professionals they supervise, and as a result help them to contribute to their personal and professional growth. Caritas Czech Republic, in partnership with the Centre for Mental Health Care Development, launched the first Professional Training Course in Psychosocial Supervision in Moldova.

What does the role of supervisor entail?

The supervisor is the person who provides support, mentoring and guidance in a particular area and guides a process of self-reflection on the person's personality and work. Supervision means guiding a person to see more clearly and understand better what they do in their work.

The purpose of supervision is to develop a person's ability to foresee risks in their work, including preventing mistakes, improving professional skills and confirming that the work they do is done to a high quality.

The supervisor knows how things should be in a particular area of expertise and is the one who provides support, guidance and an objective view of a specialist's work. In a metaphorical sense, the supervisor is the pilot of a plane who takes passengers where they see fit.

Supervisor supports psychosocial professionals

A supervisor can help a wide range of psychosocial professionals: social workers, caregivers, mental health workers and can also be of help to teachers, educators and trainers in psychosocial care.

The supervisor can provide them with guidance, feedback and emotional support to help them improve their performance and their communication and complex case management skills they encounter in their work.

Through supervision, these professionals benefit from a safe and understanding place where they can think about how they work, find the good things they do and develop their skills. Together with the supervisor, they can find good solutions to the difficult problems they face in their work.

Psychosocial Supervision Course - a first for Moldova

In 2022, Caritas Czech Republic, in partnership with the Centre for Mental Health Care Development, launched the first Professional Training Course in Psychosocial Supervision in the Republic of Moldova. This course is mainly focused on the field of psychosocial care professions.

Thus, for the first time in Moldova, the participants of this supervision course, which runs from July 2022 to December 2024, will obtain the supervisor certification from the Czech Supervision Institute and the European School for Supervision and Mentoring. This certification will enable them to engage in activities at national and international level, including within the European community.

The initiative, funded by the Czech Development Agency and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, is an important step in the development of the psychosocial support sector in Moldova. The course will give participants the opportunity to train and certify as supervisors, which will contribute to improving the quality of services and strengthening the social assistance system in the country.

The supervision courses are organised within the project "Capacity building for ensuring sustainable changes in the social services system in the Republic of Moldova" implemented by Caritas Czech Republic and the Centre for Mental Health Care Development, in the period May 2022 - December 2024.
