There are many lonely elderly people in Moldova. Young people leave the country to work abroad and often do not return. 75-year-old Nina has been taking care of her ill husband Pavel for a long time. Nurse Vera from the local home care centre opened by Caritas Czech Republic helps Nina with the care.

Telemedicine is revolutionising healthcare by using technology to bring medical and care services to those who need them most - such as the elderly people, those with limited mobility, or people living in remote areas. Mihaela and Laurențiu are two young volunteers who have joined the telemedicine initiative run by Caritas Czech Republic in Moldova. Through the volunteer experience, they have not only developed vital skills for the future but also learned the true meaning of empathy, as they gained a deeper understanding of the specific needs of people in vulnerable position.

Here, she found a supportive environment where she can learn to live independently and feel included. The protected housing, opened by Caritas Czech Republic, offers personalised care, helping residents like Elena develop vital skills such as social interaction, communication, and household management.

In rural Moldova, the majority of people living alone are elderly and often lonely. Young people are leaving Moldova in large numbers because of the poor economic situation. This leaves mainly the elderly people in the country, who are struggling with inadequate health and social care, but also with loneliness. Like 73-year-old Liudmila. But thanks to visits from carers from a nearby home care centre, she is feeling better.
