Ukrainian refugees in Moldova will receive cards for food and hygiene products

Around 350 refugee families from Ukraine will receive cards worth 1,500 MDL ( around €75) for three consecutive months from Caritas Czech Republic to temporarily ensure their food and hygiene security. The project, funded by Caritas Luxembourg, will give refugees the dignity of choice in meeting their basic needs and help them restore a sense of normality.

Cards allow refugees to make personal decisions

Caritas Czech Republic in Moldova has started to distribute the cards to refugees sheltered in Comrat, Chadar-Lunga, Vulcanesti, Criuleni and Calarasi regions. The cards will allow refugees to make personal decisions about the hygiene products and food they need.

"We will distribute the cards to about 350 refugee families. This will allow Ukrainians refugees to purchase a wide range of basic hygiene and food products, except alcohol and tobacco products," explained Anastasia Vasiliev, project coordinator.

The cards will be given to the most vulnerable Ukrainian refugee families such as pregnant and single women, families with two or more children, people with disabilities or chronic diseases and elderly people, hosted in Criuleni, Calarasi, Comrat, Chadar-Lunga and Vulcanesti.

The card I received today is a real relief and takes the weight off my shoulders for a while.

"My age no longer allows me to work. The card I received today is a real relief and takes the weight off my shoulders for a while. I will buy the food and hygiene products I need,” says gratefully one of the Ukrainian refugees in Moldova.

One mother of two told us that the card she received will allow her to bring joy to her children: "Because of the war, my children understood, perhaps too early, what it means to have no money. Today I will go with them to the shop with them, buy essential food and some sweets or ice cream for the children”.

Eligible refugees for the card support can request additional information about the distribution of the cards from representatives of the public administration from Criuleni, Calarasi, Comrat, Ceadir-Lunga and Vulcanesti.

The activity is part of the project "Ensuring food security and hygiene for vulnerable refugees in Ukraine", implemented by Caritas Czech Republic with the support of Caritas Luxembourg.
