In Moldova, we focus on the development of health care, social protection, social inclusion, rural development and environmental protection, as well as humanitarian aid to refugees from Ukraine.

Starting with Russia's occupation of Crimea in 2014, Ksenia and her husband's lives have changed fundamentally – since then they understood their future is in danger.  All the while, Ksenia wanted to make a change of her fate, but at some point, she realised she could no longer see her future in Ukraine - "8 years I kept trying with my husband, to build our plans in a partially occupied country that was continuously threatened by a new invasion".

But my family could not afford the school," twenty-seven-year-old Sigiro, a refugee from Rwanda, tells us in a Zambian hospital. “Caritas Czech Republic helped me secure a scholarship and today I am a doctor," Sigiro continues happily. 6 ways Caritas Czech Republic helps people who had to flee their homes

The number of people who were forced to leave their homes has doubled in the last 10 years to 82.4 million refugees today. The most common reasons why people involuntarily leave their home country or region are protracted wars, political persecution and, more recently, problems related to climate change. Our assistance in 6 countries focuses not only on providing the basic necessities to live but also on sustainable solutions that give refugees a chance for a better future.

Cash assistance helps Ukrainian refugees in Moldova meet their needs in dignity

Caritas Czech Republic started the first phase of EU-funded cash assistance distributions to vulnerable refugees from Ukraine who are housed in the Dubasari, Straseni, Comrat, Ceadir-Lunga and Vulcanesti regions of Moldova. The first families, sheltered in Straseni and Dubasari districts, received financial support in the amount of 2,200 lei  (around EUR 112) per family member. This aid will help them meet their basic needs, restore a sense of normalcy and become more resilient.

3 tons of garbage collected in Criuleni during a joint cleanup event

We collected about 3 tons of abandoned waste during a cleanup event in the city of Criuleni on 21 May 2022.  The initiative aimed to educate and make locals responsible for environmental protection and to change young people's attitude towards littering.
