We help where we are needed. We support the economic, environmental and social development of countries around the world. In Moldova, we focus on the development of health care, social protection, social inclusion, rural development and environmental protection, as well as humanitarian aid to refugees from Ukraine.

Two years of our help to Ukraine: How Caritas Czech Republic supports the affected people

It has been two years since the Russian invasion of Ukraine and escalation of the war.  During this time, the situation remains challenging both on the battlefield and in the living conditions of Ukrainians. Russian missiles and drones continue to target various settlements in Ukraine, while Ukrainians persist in fighting for their land or seeking refuge from the war. Caritas Czech Republic has been assisting affected Ukrainians since the beginning of the conflict, providing support both within Ukraine and abroad.

A significant step for inclusion: Caritas Czech Republic inaugurates Supported Housing in Moldova

Caritas Czech Republic has opened a Supported Housing in the city of Glodeni, Moldova - a space dedicated to safety, care, and inclusion. The residents of this home will be people with mental health problems who will have the opportunity to develop domestic, relational and communication skills, as well as participate in socio-cultural activities in the community.

Moldova is among the poorest countries in Europe. Young people leave the country to seek employment abroad. Healthcare and social services face a shortage of workers to provide care for seniors and people with disabilities. Often, family members like Svetlana and Anatolli, both in their sixties, have to take care of their daughter Oksana. However, they are not alone, thanks to the services of the home care centre.

We have put our lives on hold, say two Ukrainian sisters who have taken refuge in Moldova

Svetlana and Victoria, two sisters from Odesa, Ukraine, had a comfortable and peaceful life until the outbreak of the war. When the bombings intensified, the sisters, aged 39 and 36, along with their elderly  father and children, embarked on a search for a safe refuge, which they eventually found in the town of Comrat in Moldova.

Best of 2023 in Caritas Czech Republic in Moldova

In 2023, we have focused on strengthening and improving social services in Moldova by continuing to bring sustainable changes to the system. We introduced two new services for medico-social care centres: occupational therapy and intergenerational clubs. We organised activities to integrate Ukrainian refugees into local communities and promoted civic activism by building bridges between generations.
